Underground Utility Requirements (Call 811)

Learn when underground utility lines must be marked before tent installation, how Call 811 works, and what to expect if your tent requires staking.

For the safety of everyone involved, all underground utility lines must be located and marked before any tent requiring stakes can be installed.

When Is Utility Marking Required?

Utility marking is required whenever a tent will be secured with stakes driven into the ground.

If your tent will be installed using a weighted ballast system instead of stakes, utility marking is generally not required.

Our installation team will determine the safest anchoring method based on your event site.

Call 811 Before Your Installation

If your tent requires staking, please contact Call 811 well in advance of your installation date to have underground utilities marked.

This free service helps identify the location of underground utilities, including:

  • Electric lines

  • Gas lines

  • Water lines

  • Sewer lines

  • Communication and cable lines

  • Utility marking helps prevent damage and ensures a safe installation.

    Customer Responsibility

Please ensure utility lines have been marked before your scheduled installation if staking is required.

If utility lines have not been marked and staking is necessary, your installation may be delayed or require an alternative anchoring method, if available.

    Questions?

Not sure whether your tent will require stakes or weights? Contact our team before your event, and we'll be happy to discuss the best installation method for your location.
